About Us and our Ethos

We went away regularly in larger groups to different parts of the UK. Spending time with family and friends in larger groups was always enjoyable, but we realised the quality of the accommodation and facilities did make a difference. This is what inspired us when we were looking for a holiday home for groups of up to 12 people. We wanted somewhere that offered really good quality accommodation, ample space for the size of the group and excellent facilities to allow our visitors to really enjoy Matlock and the Peak District.

Why Guests Stay at Derwent House

There are three broad reasons why guests visit us at Derwent House:

  1. family get together,
  2. reunion of friends,
  3. a break to enjoy the wonderful landscape of the area.

Often a visit includes a special celebration, such as a birthday, anniversary or wedding. This was another reason why it is important to us that Derwent House offers everything a large group needs to enjoy their stay. A great plus for Derbyshire is that we are located centrally in the country, making it accessible from varied locations.

As Owners of Derwent House

We have been letting Derwent House since 2008. Initially we lived in Sheffield and visited the property each week. Then in 2012 the opportunity to move to Matlock came up and we decided to make the move. We now live next door to Derwent House at Glendon, which is our Bed and Breakfast property. We love living in the area, being able to enjoy the town and countryside. It also allows us to say hello to our guests and be on hand if needed. We also regularly have groups who use Derwent House and book a room or two at Glendon, which is really convenient.

Back in 2008, we were happy with what we offered, but time moves on and so does Derwent House. We have many returning guests and this has always been an important barometer to us. If guests enjoy their stay, choose to come back and have another enjoyable stay that really pleases us. We spend a lot of time on ‘little touches’ as well as the on-going larger changes, as we know that these make all the different between a good stay and a great stay.

Guided by our Reviews

We are surrounded by reviews nowadays. However, they still give us an insight into what we offer, as although we may be happy with Derwent House, we need to know what our guests say. Amazing, fabulous, perfect house, perfect location, homely, beautiful, couldn’t fault it are all words used to describe the house and that is why we do what we do. Whether our guests are with us for a weekend break or longer family holiday, we know that time is important, and we want to do all we can to contribute to making that time special.

Location, location, location

We also know that any holiday accommodation is only as good as the location. For us being able to walk to local shops, restaurants and pubs was important and this is what Derwent House offers. There are also walks from the door along some great routes, local attractions, and of course further afield the stunning broader setting of the Peak District National Park.

Many of our guests come to relax and stay close to home, visiting our wonderful historic properties in the area, while others want to walk and explore, or enjoy self-guided cycle holidays and engage in the varied outdoor pursuits the Peak District has to offer.  No matter how much time we spend exploring Derbyshire and the Peak District there is always something new to see and do. We love the area: its tranquillity, fresh air, stunning landscapes, and yet close to the local amenities. We hope you get a sense of our affection for Derbyshire and the Peak District from the photographs on our website, as well as of course of Derwent House. If this sounds like what you are looking for, it would be a pleasure to welcome you for a stay at Derwent House.
